Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY BAKER Mary Baker, 88 years of age, of Calgary, AB, formerly of Selkirk, MB, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 17, 2011 at the Southwood Hospice, Calgary, AB with the family at her bedside. She was born in Stuartburn, MB on February 12, 1923 to the late Stephan and Wasylina Bilsky. She married Peter Werestiuk of Sundown, MB and settled on an acreage in the Grunthal / Sarto, MB district where they raised 13 children. She did mixed farming on the acreage, worked in the sewing factory in Steinbach for a period of time, went to hoe sugar beets during the peak seasons and then was employed at the Grunthal Egg Grading Station for many years and then she retired. She enjoyed gardening, wild berry picking, canning, cooking, hunting, trapping, fishing, camping and traveling. She is survived by 11 children: William Verestiuk of Selkirk, MB, Mary-Anne Martens of Calgary, AB, Olga (Nick) Varkerti of Winnipeg, Rose (Frank) Palahnuk of Winnipeg, Peter Verestiuk of Selkirk, MB, Johnny Verestiuk of Prince Albert, SK, Patsy Pelletier of Calgary, AB, Joannie (Paul) Still of Petersfield, MB, Richard Werestiuk of Calgary, AB, Sally (Peter) Poels of Winnipeg, and Michael Shoren of Kelowna, BC. She is also survived by her sister, Rose Valainis of Winnipeg. She is predeceased by her parents, a son in 1958, her daughter, Jean Verestiuk in 2010, her late husband, Peter Verestiuk in 1986, her second husband, Al Baker in 1995, her sisters and brothers Anne, Lena, John, Sam, Harry and Peter. There will be a viewing on May 23, 2011 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Gilbart Funeral Home located at 309 Eveline Street in Selkirk, MB. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Gilbart Funeral Home in Selkirk, MB at 12:00 noon with viewing at 11:00 a.m. Reception will follow from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Royal Canadian Legion, 409 Eveline Street, Selkirk, MB. Interment will follow the lunch in the Green Acres Cemetery - #1 Hwy. East at 1 Green Acres Lane at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made out to the Southwood Hospice at 211 Heritage Drive S.E., Calgary, AB T2H 1M9. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
